Workings
  • A weekday shift pays the base rate for the first 8 hours, time and a half for the next 2, and double time after that.
  • Saturday pays time and a half for the first 2 hours and double time after that. Sunday is double time.
  • A public holiday on swing pays double time and a half for every hour worked. A public holiday in the R&R period is not paid.
  • Annual leave hours are taken out of weekday hours first and paid at the base rate plus leave loading. Sick leave is not included. Weekend and public-holiday penalties use the base rate.
  • Night hours add the night premium on hours worked. Leave and penalties stay on the base rate.
  • Tool allowance is paid per day worked. Licence, site and PCB / PIP are paid per hour worked.
  • Superannuation at 12% of the cash wage is added to total value. It is not take-home pay.
  • Day and night together use the midpoint of the day rate and the night rate.

After-tax is an estimate for a full income year, not tax advice. It includes the low income tax offset and the Medicare levy (with its low-income reduction). It excludes the Medicare levy surcharge, HELP and other study debts, and any deductions. Rates are the 2026-27 resident scale with the low income tax offset and the 2% Medicare levy, reviewed 2026-09-30. Update the table in packages/shared/src/tax.ts each July. https://www.ato.gov.au/tax-rates-and-codes/tax-rates-australian-residents
